Golf GPS systems are getting more and more popular among amateur and golf enthusiasts. Not only will it significantly improve your golf performance but will also enhance the game experience.

People have been using GPS extensively today (mostly in the United States and European countries) for road guidance. There are many kinds of GPS units namely, personal, handheld, automotive , GPS for trucks etc. The main function of which are all the same – to give accurate direction.

Golf GPS systems use the same methodology similar with popular commercial road GPS units. However, it has specific features and that is to give precise location of the green, hazards, water and other obstacles present on each golf courses, these golf GPS systems may come in handy little gadgets that can be fitted on your belt or onto your golf cart.

There are many popular brands for Golf GPS units that can be found on the internet. Some of these brands may sound familiar to you – Garmin, Skycaddie, Callaway and many others. They may sound different at first, but each of these units function similarly. They uses the same GPS satellites (similar to automotive GPS) to enable its user to download specific golf course map and trace access points across the course. This is crucial because such information will provide the Golfer guidance as to where he/she would place the ball. Traditional methods are out of the books now and GPS technology is the latest hip and trend golfers are looking onto.

However, in as much as it increases one’s golfing experience on the field it should be noted that these golf GPS systems cannot be used on professional golf tournaments as stated by USGA and RR&A. I guess this is a ridiculous idea, if these golf associations think that using one of these GPS gadgets is a way of “cheating” the game. Actually, these golf GPS systems are merely “tools” similar with the club to strike the golf ball, the tee to handle the ball or the golf cart to transport golfers across the field. The game still depends on the skill of the golfer. If he or she doesn’t have the necessary skill then even if you have all these wonderful toys in your pockets you still wouldn’t win the game. Do you think one can beat Tiger Woods with the aid of these gadgets? Certainly not!

As always, one must look at some parameters of the golf gps systems units before you decide if it is a good buy or not. Is it comfortable to use? Display screen size? Battery/power usage? Accuracy of course navigation? Points of access across the field? OS compatibility? These are some of the things you must consider.

All in all, technology has indeed become a great ally for men. Golf GPS systems will improve your game experience and guide you throughout the game. But of course, you should understand that each game still depends on your skill. And I guess at this moment, no gadgets will assist you on that.
