Golf GPS Systems Buying Know-How

by admin on February 6, 2010

Golf is a great outdoor game most people love. However most of the time, golfers face tremendous challenges over the course of the terrain such as the direction of the hole, green and obstacles.

Unfortunately, some new golfers find these obstacles too challenging (I had my share of frustration as well) and may get them disappointed and give up the game. Good thing technology never ceases to improve our lives. Today, there are golf GPS systems available in the market which help amateur and pro golfers concentrate more on their game and forget about the hassle of surveying the golf course for the correct direction of the green.

However, as with any gadgets we must need to know the technical aspects / specifications of the product to know if we are getting the best deal. There are many golf GPS systems and devices you can buy in your local department store. You may luck out to find an excellent GPS device, but why risk it all when there are information that can help you out?

In buying a particular golf GPS device you must consider few elements and those are:

  1. Price
  2. Performance
  3. Reliability/ Accuracy
  4. Recurring Bills

There are many great golf GPS systems brand at hand like Callaway, Garmin, Skycaddie, OnPar, Sonocaddie and many more. If you’re not a tech savvy individual or if you’re the type who is quite lazy on researching great parameters for each product. Don’t worry, information site like Golf GPS Systems provide data, guide and reviews of some popular golf GPS gadgets in the market. You’ll get a good deal and that’s a guarantee.

You must first take a look at the price of each product. As much as possible pick 3-4 products you like and compare the price of each. Make sure that you set a budget on buying so that you can properly set your mind which gadget to buy.

There are Golf GPS systems which looks “cheap” however there could be a take away on them such as Recurring bills (item #4). Recurring bills can be in the form of monthly subscription or high price downloads for the golf course maps. Some golf GPS devices come with built-in courses when you buy them. Look for “one-time” payment deals so you can be sure that no monthly recurring bills are needed. Ask also how much a course map download cost.

Try also to buy on off peak season or during discount season like Black Friday. Most dealers give large discounts on tech products in the form of coupons. Some Golf GPS systems manufacturers might give a special rebate upon purchasing the product. Always ask for this kind of information. A few words do go a long way!
Next Parameter to look is Performance of the product. How’s the resolution of the screen? Is it colored or not? Most Golf GPS devices come with high resolution display monitor to show details of the course. Can you read the numbers showing on the monitor? Is it large enough for you? How about the weight and dimensions of the gadget? Are you comfortable carrying it?

These are some of the questions you must ask yourself before buying the product. Unfortunately, you can’t see that in the internet. A close up look at the product will ensure that “what you see is what you get”.

Lastly is Reliability and Accuracy. This element defines how accurate are the data being shown by the product. Are the position of the greens and holes correct? How about the water obstacles?

Not all golf course maps can be contained in your GPS device so you need to check (upon downloading/ copying) the map for its accuracy. You must also consider the sunlight legibility of display screen which means “Would you be able to read the data on the screen on a bright sunny day?”.

Those are some information you must include in your shopping list while searching the internet or your local tech store for Golf GPS systems. As I’ve said, there are a lot of these gadgets lurking around, the question is “Are they a good buy or not?”.
